……because a safe, successful business starts at the top.

A safe workplace is important – and it starts with you.  As a manager and leader, the rest of the company look up to you and will take commitment cues from you and act accordingly.  If you want your workers to think and act safe, you need to promote your policy and be committed to it – and act the way you want your workers to act.

Demonstrate your commitment to safety and ensure that everyone in your business is clear about their health and safety responsibilities.

Your workers are your greatest asset when establishing an effective safety management plan and policy.

Management Commitment

Develop a successful safety culture in your business by leading from the top, where your actions and attitudes send a message to your workers that you are serious about safety. From this commitment, effective partnerships are formed with your workers to achieve safer workplaces.  Build this motto into your policy and ensure you effectively implement and communicate your policy.

Consultation Tips
When consulting with your workers, follow these tips:

  • Lead By Example – demonstrate the behaviours your procedures, policies and plans advocate
  • Maintain an Open Environment – encourage workers to provide feedback and empower workers to solve problems on their own
  • Involve Everyone – encourage participation and actively engage the workforce where possible. Give them opportunities to contribute.
  • Provide Facilities – provide facilities such as toilets, tea and coffee. Show you care and provide comfort for when they are out of work as well as at work.
  • Listen – demonstrate respect and give respect by listening and paying attention.
